Villa Nalu is a tranquil and spacious dwelling with treetop views and the Caribbean just beyond. The bed was clean and comfortable. The kitchen is minimally equipped but when on vacation most of our meals are eaten out. A list of restaurants that are within walking distance is in the unit. We especially liked The Joint; good food, good music.
The recommended taxi service; Miguel’s was excellent. Rikki, the manager/host, was charming and super helpful.

10/10 all the way, would stay again. If you are looking for a quiet refuge surrounded by nature this is your spot! Everything you need and nothing you don't. Pool was a treat, and the neighbouring renters were very nice. Hammock was wonderful. Unit has AC, internet, great towels, including 2 beach towels, and a really comfy king bed. Coffee and drinking water were great. Shower pressure is amazing. Rikki was available for any questions we had and great recommendations for things to do and see. Roosters and peacocks and neighbourhood are loud as others said, but we found it funny. I brought earplugs to sleep, shut the doors and windows at night and never had an issue. Walking distance to anything you need in the south end of the island. Lay on the balcony in the hammock and read for hours while the view and breeze relax you!

Really had a wonderful time here! Idyllic location and wonderful hosts. I would like to live forever on the balcony please. We had a couple hiccups here and there but it was all handled with grace and clear communication. Elias was kind, Rikki was a total delight and generous with time and ideas and found me a ukulele (and helped me not get hustled when I bought a hammock).

The tacos around the corner at Rancho Capricho were SO GOOD. Eating tacos while watching peacocks roam the side street. Aces.

The coffee truck (Lacandona) a walk away is as good as any 3rd wave coffee shop in Auckland or Brooklyn and the seating area is just beautiful.

As previous reviews stated:
- yup, it’s a distance from the tourist bustle which I personally wanted. Still solid amenities near at hand.
- you are on a tropical island in the middle of real life. If you’re not down with insects & neighbor roosters, you might be happier in a resort kinda spot. I think you’d be mad but hey we’ve all got our thing.

The villa was beautifully decorated and spacious and we loved the big balcony and hammock in the treetops and the lovely little pool. However, it’s a bit lacking in comfort and amenities. Concrete floors and very dim lighting, few dishes or kitchen supplies, hard sofas, etc. It’s quite a bit more rustic than the photos suggest. Also, I have to echo what others said: be prepared for some very persistent roosters next door! 🙂

This was my first longer term visit to Isla. I've visited on a day trip before. I've traveled to all the "resort" areas of Mexico, and have always stayed at an All Inclusive resort, usually Dreams or Secrets brand. I often use VRBO for vacations within the United States, and the reviews of Villas Nalu on VRBO were great, so we booked. This adorable little nook at the South end of Isla was just perfect for my and my husband. We do a lot of town and outdoor exploring when visiting new places, so we did not require luxury amenities since we don't spend a lot of time in them. Nalu's features were perfect for our needs, bright, clean, and relaxing. The bed was SO comfortable that I want one for home! The kitchen was great for what cooking we needed to, the bathroom was clean and cute.

Julia, our concierge rep was exceptionally helpful when we decide to use the grocery services and the rental golf cart services. The groceries were perfectly chosen! We wanted to have some breakfast items, coffee, CERVEZA and sandwich fixings on hand right away since we arrived late at night and didn't have a golf cart until the next day. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Our property managers Rikki and Eliasz were extremely attentive and communicative with any questions or concerns we had. Eliasz was there to greet us on arrival and he also came to say goodbye!

I would certainly stay with Villas Nalu on our next trip to Isla Mujeres!

We loved Villa Nalu! The upstairs balcony/deck was lovely with a view of the pool, the Caribbean, the sunrise, and the surrounding area. The villa was a cool space and exactly as pictured. One of the caretakers, Elias, reached out before check in, let us arrive early AND came to pick us up. So helpful and friendly! Rikki, the owner, was great too. She texted her insider island tips and popped in to say hi. Also, I preferred the mellower south end of the island. More trees and space but still 3 restaurants/bars and a little market a short walk away. We’ll come back!

I stayed in 3 different properties over my few weeks on the island and Villa Nalu was my favourite! It is such a beautiful, artistic and cozy retreat away from the hussle and bussle. You can easily spend your days in Centro and playa Norte but come back here for a deep unwind at the end of the day. Or you can soak in the relaxed vibe of the south part of the island as well! There are enough restaurants within walking distance and a wonderfully refreshing swimmable beach nearby. The house itself is a work of art! The pool is great to cool down in and the bedrooms are beyond comfortable. If you plan to go downtown daily there are busses that pass by fairly often, as well as cabs are always driving by that you can hop in. Or you can rent a golf or scooter. Rikki the host is so wonderful and inviting and makes you feel so welcomed and cared for. And Eliaz the concierge is so helpful and kind as well, always ready to answer any questions you may have. I would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat. Things to note: it is at the South end of the island, which I prefer but look it up on the map ahead of time so you know. It’s just a 10 min walk to the tip of punta sur with such beautiful sunrises. There are roosters crowing regularly but it’s charming and not enough to keep you from sleeping or relaxing. I can’t wait to stay here again!

If you like the idea of staying in a peaceful Airbnb that has the feel of a treehouse where you hear birds and the roar of the ocean from your personal hammock then this is a great place for you. The hosts have been responsive to every need and even came to the ferry to greet me and bring me to the Airbnb. Wonderful stay and I have no qualms of recommending this place to anyone.

Excellent experience all around. Elias was attentive, prompt, and knowledgeable. The listing was precisely as it was in pictures and the views from the balcony were lovely. We had one tiny water issue and Elias proactively went to work on it before I'd even had a chance to message him; however, I would note that the hot water fades in short order. The internet was also somewhat spotty, so streaming Netflix on the smart TV was challenging. There were a few shops, restaurants, and even a beach club in short walking distance, all of which we enjoyed. Overall, this was a fantastic stay on the southern end of the island. Would highly recommend this property and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We loved staying at Rikki's place. it was beautiful & private, the pool was amazing and we were able to walk to one restaurant. Once we got a golf cart, we were able to explore the island more and come back to our quiet and calm house. Elias was a great help and we can't wait to return

We had the most wonderful time staying at this beautiful home. From the beginning to end we had a wonderful experience . Eliaz welcomes you at the ferry and he makes sure to support you until you depart.
We were working remotely most of our stay and the internet was amazing . I mention this because I know internet can be challenging in the island. So major plus!!
Lastly, Rikki the owner . Lives next door and is just the best. She made the stay even more memorable . We loved our stay and would love to come back for an extended period of time

I am a 49 yo solo female traveler & came to Isla Mujeres for my first time on a whim without much research. Villas Nalu & Isla Mujeres took me a couple of days to get into the island groove and settle into the laid-back Mexican island/jungle style. Once I did, I was in love & then it was sadly time to go back to the fast-pace of big city life.
Villas Nalu is very clean, on the south side of the island (Punta Sur) & is very quiet. Yes, the roosters woke me up a few times but it reminded me to get up & see the beautiful sunrise & allowed me see all the Isla sights before the day trippers arrived. There is refreshing upstairs air conditioning & a beautifully maintained shared pool. Rikki, Eliaz and Julia (w/ Everything Isla) made this a memorable and fulfilling visit & helped with recommendations/reservations. Golf cart!!!
The artwork in the space is fabulous. For those of us needing the tranquility & convenience to disconnect and reconnect, this is the place.

The saltwater pool was my favorite!!! The place Nextdoor was empty during our stay so everything was secluded and peaceful! The host was wonderful and attentive. Her assistant also had a golf cart waiting for us when we got in, and even grocery shopped prior. Thank you for everything!

Beautiful house in communal location with cute pool!
Be aware during storm season the island experiences power outages but the owner and her coordinator do what it takes to accommodate. This was a relaxing location and albeit yes it’s in the south point of island (Punta Sur) you are less overwhelmed by tourist and such. We did rent the golf cart from because it was easier to have it ready for us when we got off ferry. They also mentioned they could even arrange transportation to airport and avoid also renting a car, but we needed to go mainland several times so we ate that cost. Only thing is that the company takes a bit to contact, however once you get contact info of property owner and coordinator things get better. They have great recs and a Chedraui (grocery store) nearby and pharmacy too if you need to get groceries and cook if not feeling like eating out. My only complaint is that yes the bed is firm, wish there was an additional topper for it or a hybrid mattress instead

We loved, loved, loved our stay at Villa Nalu!

It is very easy to get to the Airbnb. Elias picked us up at the Port on Isla Mujeres and showed the cab driver the way to the place.

You open the gate to this wonderful home and you will feel relaxed immediately

by Review from Airbnb Guest #196635

Like everyone has mentioned, Rikki was an incredible host! She greeted us upon arrival and got us settled in. The space was as gorgeous as the images make it out to be.

I ended up getting a stomach bug, and Rikki was so helpful during that rough time! I'm very appreciative to her for that. That said, the space was perfect, even when stuck on the couch for a day or two!

There are roosters across the street, so I'd recommend bringing ear plugs if you're a light sleeper, but the slowness of the South part of the island was definitely worth it for us. It's a great romantic spot if you're looking for a low-key getaway!

by Review from Airbnb Guest #195771

My sister and I could not have asked for a better experience at Villa Nalu. Rikki, our host, was incredibly kind and helpful. She made sure we had everything we needed, gave up tips about where to eat and what to see, and made us feel at home. Her hospitality and thoughtfulness made our trip especially memorable. The space is just as it's pictured, if not better. Beautifully designed and very comfortable. The kitchen was supplied with everything we needed, plus useful additions like vegetable cleaner and a purified tap. The pool, along with the flora and fauna surrounding the villa is truly breathtaking. We'd highly recommend it and can't wait to go back.

by Review from Airbnb Guest #194628

Villa Nalu was a dreamy little spot to stay in Punta Sur on Isla Mujeres. Rikki was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout the entire trip. I really appreciated the solitude and peaceful location of the villa. Waking up to the rising sun and sipping on a cup of coffee in the hammock with the breeze rolling through was so relaxing. The previous reviews calling out the roosters in the morning is definitely true, but it adds to the charm of the location and truly isn't that big of a deal (close the sliding door and turn on the AC unit - it drowns out the noise if you need to sleep in more 😉

You get the best of both worlds on the island - remote serenity in the southern part of the island where the villa is located and head north for a more lively atmosphere/touristy vibes.

The bus is super easy to get on and off and only is $1 USD per trip. Cabs are heavily present as well to get you to and from the south and north ends of the island.

We loved every aspect of Villas Nalu. The property is peaceful and beautiful. Rikki is a wonderful host. I would highly recommend this property.

by Review from Airbnb Guest #191288

We absolutely loved our experience! The villa is beautiful, cozy, and has everything needed to cook simple dishes. The staff has been exceptional from start to finish; their recommendations were spot on. The only negative point I can find is the rooster den across the street. Light sleepers beware!

by Review from Airbnb Guest #189776

Beautiful spot--wish I was back again next week! Rikki is very gracious, friendly and helpful. Comfortable quiet spot short walking distance to both sunrise and sunset, and very easy to get cabs or take a golf cart to all parts of the island.

Isla itself is also fantastic. Loved being able to stay someplace so quiet* and rustic but have easy access to so many great restaurants, none of which felt tourist-y.

*prior reviews that mention the morning roosters are accurate, if you can't handle that this isn't your place

Price wise it was an okay deal. Rikki is a fantastic host. everything was clean and accessible. It's just comparing other places and prices once I came here to the isla, it was a little over priced.

by Review from Airbnb Guest #189490

The villa was perfect! Loved the space and it was clean and peaceful. Rikki was absolutely amazing! She recommended wonderful food and helped us get a golf cart rented. we will definitely be going back and booking with her again!

by Review from Airbnb Guest #187799

The most beautiful place that we stayed in during our time in Mexico.

Rikki was a fabulous host and made us feel right at home after a long delay at the airport and arriving much later than planned.

The villa and gardens are picture perfect and the balcony is the lovely spot for a morning coffee. Kitchen is well equipped and has drinking water.

Located in an easy walk to Punta Sur. Definitely recommend walking up there for the sunrise - stunning!

There are a few restaurants/bars in walking distance. We were only staying for a few days so just walked and used taxis to get around but if staying for longer I would recommend hiring some sort of transport if you want to venture to mid town and to the North of the island.

Thank you Rikki for a magical stay!

by Review from Airbnb Guest #187679

This was our first time visiting Isla Mujeres and we will definitely be back. The villa was beautiful - modern and stylish, but still comfortable and relaxing. The second story deck off the bedroom had an ocean view and cool breezes… perfect spot for morning coffee and reading. There’s a shared pool with the adjacent larger house on the property, which creates a kind of communal vibe if you want - we met the other guests who were staying next door and enjoyed hanging out with them. But the villa itself feels very private and tucked away, if that’s more your thing.

Rikki (our on-site host) was extremely friendly and helpful and responded quickly to our needs and even let us borrow snorkels and a ukulele! Everything Isla handled our transportation to/from the airport and made getting there super easy.

The location was perfect - away from the busy town center and in a much quieter part of the island, but still plenty to do within walking distance. Nearby restaurants close early, though!

I loved this stay so much!

by Review from Airbnb Guest #183288

That place was magical ! Rikki was soooooo nice ! She gave us many helpful recommendations, places to go, great contacts... she was so friendly! She made us feel at home right away!!!
It has drinkable water, big bottles directly in the villa, the whole villa is big and comfortable.. it was just perfect !!

The only 'negative' thing would be that it's not so private; the porch where you can sit quietly has a direct view on the other's porch...

Rent a golf kart, it's necessary 🙂

by Review from Airbnb Guest #181525

The best island stay!! Rikki was so helpful from the start and felt like she was just there for us. This villa was stunning, very unique and beautiful stay, it has everything we needed.
We’ll definitely stay again when we come back to this island!

This was a beautiful stay. As a solo traveler, I was comfortable, slept well and enjoyed my stay. Rikki, the host was a blessing and helpful in so many ways. She helped make my birthday very special.

This is a beautiful property. A hidden gem. There is so much attention to detail in the property and it is so well designed.

The owners, Rikki and Antonio went so above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. They were such great hosts both for the property and the island as a whole. They were excellent with communication and gave recommendations for restaurants and things to do on the island. They also arranged a golf cart rental for us.

They own 2 galleries on the island (Madera food and art, 42 gallery) that are beautiful and I recommend checking these out as well. I would highly recommend a stay here. It’s the perfect quiet, relaxing place for a couple. Thank you SO much!!

by Review from Airbnb Guest #140099

The private guest Villa and grounds are very lovely with a private entrance. The Villa has has a rustic artist-retreat vibe, and is truly one of the most charming places I have stayed in Isla Mujeres (and I have stayed in a lot of places there). The hosts are very friendly and helpful for any questions or requests, and they went well above and beyond my expectations to ensure I had a comfortable stay . There is a king bed and futon upstairs, and also a balcony with a hammock. The kitchen is an efficiency - outfitted for easy meals, with a large refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. The bedroom has a very comfortable king bed, and also a futon, if the (max 2) guests do not wish to share a bed. During my stay, several peacocks and peahens from a nearby farm visited the Villa which was quite a treat. The area is quiet and peaceful in the afternoon and at night but as this is the south side of the island, morning is when the roosters crow. So if you like to sleep late you may want to choose something closer to the north end where music and partying are happening during the day/night but early mornings are calm. The Villa is a short walk to Punta Sur, ideal if you want to get up early and watch the sunrise which is a popular attraction. You will probably want to rent a golf cart or bicycles to get around the island as there are only a couple of restaurants within walking distance. There is a delivery service that offers food from restaurants across the whole island that is easy and very fast if you ever feel like staying in. If you want your own private retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of the north side, this is your place! I loved it!

by Review from Airbnb Guest #137490

We stayed at Villa Nalu the week before Christmas. We loved the comfort private deck with a distant view of the water. A/C in the bedroom was a big plus.
Rikki, the owner, did a fantastic job with ensuring our stay was fantastic. She even set up round trip transportation from the airport to the Ferry docks so we didn’t have to find a taxi at the overwhelming airport.
The location is private and quiet, but comes with the cost of being on the opposite side of the attractions and beaches on the north side of the island. If you want total freedom getting around town, I suggest renting a golf cart, which we did for a day, and it helped orient us to the island. However, the buses constantly run through every 20 min or so, and they are significantly cheaper than golf cart rentals or a taxi.
If you want privacy and don’t mind taking a 15-20 min ride with beautiful views across the island to get up town, this is the place for you
